Two Rex Makes #2 - It started with the theme

So what’s the idea?

It started with the theme.

Time travel stories in fiction are something I’ve always enjoyed, watching Quantum Leap as a kid or Star Trek when they slingshot round the sun to save the whales or the brilliant back to the future trilogy (child of the 80’s if you haven’t guessed yet!)

I’d recently watched some play throughs of The Loop from Pandasaurus Games games and realised that time travel wasn’t that common a theme in modern board games and it got me thinking of my own little time story.

What if you had just discovered time travel, taken your time machine for a spin and something went wrong? The machine broke apart and you found yourself stuck in a loop, being thrown through time periods unable to get back home. The goal of the game is to cobble together parts for a new machine and assemble it in a handy emergency pocket dimension you bought along for emergencies. The first decision was which time periods to travel to. My first thought was to use the 3 ages of humanity, start off in the Stone Age, then the mighty Roman Empire and lastly the age of technology and time travel fiction, the 1980s!!

This could lead to some fun artwork and opportunities to reference some great time travel fiction.

The next challenge was to come up with game mechanisms that would work well with this unstable time travelling idea and that’s where the unruly scribbling comes in…
